Award-winning Afrobeats star BNXN releases second album 'CAPTAIN'
'CAPTAIN', the much-anticipated second album by Afrobeats superstar BNXN has been released.
The 16-track album includes thrilling collaborations with leading Afrobeats artists, such as the Soweto Gospel Choir, Victony, FOLA, and Seyi Vibez.
BNXN finds inspiration on 'CAPTAIN' from the joys and challenges of being one of the most admired acts in Afrobeats.
As he experiments with new sounds and breaks genre boundaries with songs like "Cutesy," "Totori," "Cough Syrup" featuring Victony, and many more, he takes a step back to think and absorb the perspectives of success.
Jiggy, Vampire Craze, Sbthaproducer, BlaiseBeatz, Rymez, Young Soul, SB, Kel P, Synx, Tuzi, Kdagreat, Gemini Major, Semzi, Cesar, and Enta are among the several producers he collaborates with on "CAPTAIN."
"This album represents who I am right now and everything I've been through to get here," BNXN says in reference to "CAPTAIN." I've never been more honest in my songs. I want my fans to experience all of my highs and lows. This is the captain's narrative, and my story.
One of the most identifiable voices in Nigerian music since making their debut is BNXN.
Following his career high point of winning the Next Rated Prize at the 15th Headies, he released his debut LP, "Sincerely, BNXN."
The award-winning star continues to display his talent in "CAPTAIN," another chapter in his career.

How Afrobeats is Reinventing itself Globally
A storytelling of a new wave of artists pushing the limit of afrobeats with mixes of tunes, culture and genres of african music to global recognition and impact
Afrobeats gained international attention during the beginning of the 2010s thanks to artists like Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid.
The next wave is being dominated by artists such as Asake, Kizz Daniel, Ayra Starr, Rema, Tems, Tyla and a lot more who are combining different genre of music with amapiano and afrobeats rhythms.
The combination of traditional lifestyle and modern highlife is one of the biggest changes in recent years. While sounding ahead of their time, artists are returning to their roots. For example, Asake's distinctive fusion of street-hop, gospel chorus, and Yoruba Fuji, laid over in the Amapiano style, continues to dominate music charts. Younger musicians have been influenced by his sound to create spiritual, chant-driven hits.
With her sultry, soul-infused vocals, Tems has led the way in what fans are referring to as 'Afrobeats Reloaded' a minimalist and intensely emotive style of music-making. Her compositions are still praised all over the world, and her impact can be seen in the rise in popularity of melancholic, reflective songs that are at the top of both the Nigerian and international charts.
Streaming platforms are becoming essential to this transition. Artists are now better able to understand their audience thanks to data insights from Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, and Boomplay. More deliberate releases, genre explorations, and EP-length projects geared towards international discovery have resulted from this.
Afrobeats is also being redefined by collaborations. In 2025, Nigerian musicians are collaborating with a wider variety of foreign performers, such as Brazilian funk artists and Korean pop singers. Globalisation is expanding the music's audience and enhancing its sound rather than diluting it. Afrobeats is breaking down linguistic and cultural borders, as seen by Davido's recent collaboration with Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Rauw Alejandro and Ayra Starr's duet with South Korean icon IU.
The emergence of independent musicians is another characteristic that sets Afrobeats apart. Many up-and-coming artists are avoiding traditional label deals by growing their fan bases from their homes with better access to music distribution. Social media platforms, particularly TikTok, have developed into powerful discovery tools that establish careers and take songs to viral fame. Nigerian producers such as Sarz, P.Prime and Magicsticks are pushing the boundaries with their beats, propelling the growth. International artists are increasingly turning to them for Afro-inspired albums, and their work is setting the standard worldwide.
Afrobeats in 2025 is evolving thematically away from party tunes. With a rawness that appeals to young people everywhere, artists are talking more about identity, mental health, societal challenges, and love. This change is solidifying Nigerian music's role as cultural voice and entertainment.
